Traditionally made in the Pearl River Delta region of Guangdong Province in China, a dragon boat is a man-powered watercraft of various sizes, designs, and uses. Today, dragon boats are used for competitive races and are made from a much lighter materials such as carbon fiber. Dragon boats are used for the paddling sport of dragon boat racing. Dragon boat racing first started as an international sport back in Hong Kong in 1976 (“Dragon Boat,” 2014).
